Options trading journal

An options journal that counts a strategy as one trade

An iron condor is one trade, not four. A roll that lost 100 and then made 320 is one win of +220. Your journal shows options the way you trade them, and never guesses a number it cannot know.

A strategy is one trade

Legs opened in one order become one strategy: one card with one sentence, its legs folded under it, one trade in your reports.

Sold SPXW iron condor 6,750/6,800 · 6,950/7,000 for 26.00 · closed for 30.10 · -$420.00.

Verticals, condors, covered calls, Christmas trees and many more are named from their legs. Legs you opened in separate orders are proposed as one strategy, and you confirm, change or say no.

Rolls and the wheel are one campaign

A roll made in one order, and an assigned put followed by a covered call, count as one trade with the sum of its strategies. Each card says how it follows the one before ("Rolled from 480P · campaign +$220.00 so far"), and shares from an assigned put show their adjusted basis beside the broker's.

Nothing is estimated

  • Capital at risk and return on capital ("RoC +26.5%"), or "unknown" with the reason: a naked short call, a calendar, a missing price.
  • An option past its last trading moment shows as settling until the broker reports what happened. It counts as neither a win nor a loss until then.
  • Live Greeks and unrealized amounts from tastytrade say "no Greeks" or "no price", never 0, and are in no total.

And everything else in your journal

Your voice notes land on the strategy you are in, your tags and grades go on it, and Pattern Scan finds what your best and worst trades have in common. Stocks from Sierra Chart and NinjaTrader count on the New York stock market's day.
